Single Women's Lodge

The Single Women's Lodge or the "Zone" as it is sometimes referred to, is a handicapped accessible shelter for single homeless women. Located in The Purdue Center of Hope, the Zone has a capacity of 20 women per night.

The Zone provides shelter and case management to:

  • Women who are chronically homeless due to mental illness, substance abuse and/or physical disabilities.
  • Women who need temporary shelter due to a loss of income, eviction, lack of affordable housing and/or domestic violence.

The women who enter the Zone program are provided with safe housing, nutritional meals and individual case management. The maximum length of stay at the Zone is 90 days, but on average, women stay approximately 30 days.

Although it is a short-term program, the staff at the Zone work hard to help women turn their lives around. Case workers frequently help women enroll in mental health or substance abuse programs and stay in touch to track their progress. The case workers also help select appropriate educational opportunities, employment, job training and/or counseling. Our staff understands it can take several attempts before a positive life change occurs, and we remain committed to that goal, no matter how many times someone returns to us.

2007 statistics/successes:

  • 361 women served
  • 48 women obtained permanent housing
  • 102 received drug and alcohol counseling
  • 2 passed the GED
  • 24 completed Job Skills Training
  • 168 obtained employment
  • 86 graduated from the Career Center
