Salvation Army Memphis reaches $400K goal

The Salvation Army Memphis reached its $400,000 fundraising goal Monday for its annual Red Kettle Campaign.

The campaign will continue through Christmas Eve both through the iconic red kettles at area stores but also online at www.onlineredkettle.com.

Kettles can be found at 68 locations throughout the greater Memphis area, including Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, Schnucks and Kroger stores.

Last year, Salvation Army Memphis exceeded its goal by $20,000, Maj. Mark Woodcock, area commander of The Salvation Army, said in a statement.

“The additional money was put to good use this past year as we saw an 8 percent increase in people who came to us for assistance,” he said.

Salvation Army Memphis began its work in the city on Oct. 18, 1900. In 2008, it helped more than 20,700 people, provided more than 67,000 nights of lodging, and served 209,462 meals and snacks.
