Germantown High raises $5KBy Emily Fletcher, Special to My Life December 21, 2009 Germantown High School captured the Christmas spirit this year, raising more than $5,000 for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. "Angel Tree depends on the support of the community," said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. "Germantown High School's generous contribution is truly a blessing," he said. "It is always great to see the community come behind this rewarding program, especially during these tough economic times, in the way the students of Germantown High School have done this year." Michael Henson, study hall monitor at GHS, came up with this year's fundraising concept for the students. Henson promised to shave his head and wear a dress during an assembly if the students reached their fundraising goal of $5,000. Henson sports a messy Mohawk since students shaved his head during an assembly. The program was held to recognize the students' efforts for the Angel Tree program, which totaled $5,930 and included 66 bikes. "We've always supported the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program by adopting angels," said GHS Principal Mike McIntyre. Henson was not the only one who gave up his locks for a good cause during the assembly. Mitch Penninger, junior at GHS, and a handful of other students agreed to cut their hair for Locks of Love.
