Salvation Army Waiting For Angel Tree Donations
FAST FACTS:
- Two days left to donate to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program
- There are still 1,000 paper angels that have been adopted and need to be returned
- The Salvation Army will play Santa to around 5,000 children and seniors this year
Just 2 weeks until Christmas and the Salvation Army is still asking for your help. Most of the paper angels on its trees have been adopted, but that doesn't mean the gifts will be purchased..
There are still lots of empty spots on the floor of the Salvation Army's Angel Warehouse. Each spot represents a child who still has nothing for Christmas.
"We still have 1000 angels that need to be returned back to us. They have been adopted, but they need to be returned back to us," said Major Mark Woodcock.
This year the Salvation Army is playing Santa for about 5,000 children and senior citizens in Memphis.
It's hoping all the angels are returned with gifts, but just in case is asking for miscellaneous toys for boys and girls to help fill in the gaps.
The Salvation Army says while all donations have been down about 15% over the last couple of years, its services have increased by 21% and it doesn't want to let anyone down this year.
"We have qualified these families back in the fall. We looked them straight in the eye. We understand a little bit of their circumstances and we want to be able to support and love them," said Major Woodcock.
"Volunteers will be busy in the angel warehouse over the next several days. Most of these items will leave the warehouse the Saturday before Christmas.
If you adopted an angel your gifts must be returned to the angel tree locations at Carrefour, Wolfchase Galleria and Oak Court Malls by this Saturday.
You can also drop off miscellaneous gifts at the same place. For news updates from the field follow me at http://www.twitter.com/melissamoon3.
