Red Kettle Campaign Reaches $400,000 Goal with Three Days Left to Go

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, December 21, 2009 – Thanks to the support of the Memphis community, The Salvation Army has reached its fundraising goal of $400,000 for its annual Red Kettle Campaign with three days left to go in the campaign. The community is encouraged to continue its support of the Red Kettle campaign.

“Last year we exceed our goal by about $20,000,” said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. “The additional money was put to good use as this past year we saw an 8 percent increase in people who came to us for assistance.”

“Every year, this campaign illustrates the generosity of the Memphis community, and we are extremely grateful for every single donation we have received,” said Major Woodcock.

Money donated to the Red Kettle campaign supports Salvation Army programs and services at Christmas and throughout the year. Every donation - no matter how large or small - flows directly into assistance for the underserved in the Memphis community.

Kettles can be found at 68 locations throughout the greater Memphis area, including Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, Schnucks and Kroger stores, through Thursday, December 24.

In an attempt to make donating easier, The local Salvation Army has cashless kettles at six locations throughout the city including Hobby Lobby (near Wolfchase), Wolfchase Galleria (Food Court Entrance), Kroger Hwy 70 (Summer and Appling), Oak Court Mall (Poplar Entrance- only on Saturdays), Kroger 540 Mendenhall (at Sander in) and Schnucks 3150 Forest Hill Irene (at Poplar).

Donations may also be made through the Online Red Kettle. Visit www.onlineredkettle.com and enter 38105 to donate to Memphis Salvation Army.
