Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army is Perfect for Businesses,Clubs or Organizations Looking for a Holiday Activity to Share Together as a Group

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, November 8, 2006 – Bell ringing and red kettles are synonymous with the joy of the holiday season. The bells ring out with good tidings, hope and the opportunity for businesses and civic groups to volunteer their time and really get into the true spirit of the holidays.

Non-profit organizations like The Salvation Army rely on groups such as businesses, community organizations, churches, schools and professional organizations who commit to volunteering for an entire day.

"It really helps us when an organization asks us if they can commit to an entire day," said Major Mark Woodcock, area commander for The Salvation Army. "It means we have more stability at a location and don't have to worry about finding people to cover shifts, instead the volunteering organization handles that for us."

Organizations can choose a day, decide upon a location with The Salvation Army and structure the day among their employees.

Volunteers are the backbone of The Salvation Army holiday programs. The money raised from the Kettle campaign goes to fund The Salvation Army's programs year-round including shelters, drug rehabilitation programs, counseling, food pantry, day care and the disaster relief program.

Organizations who would like to volunteer need to contact Elizabeth Duncan at (901) 260-9130.
