Oh! Suzanna's Gives Back to The Salvation Army on National Donut Day

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, June 4, 2009 - Friday, June 5 is National Donut Day and Dick Winter, owner of Oh! Suzanna's Donuts and Pastries in Collierville, Tennessee is participating by raising money for The Salvation Army.

National Donut Day began in 1938 as a fundraiser for The Salvation Army and to honor its "Lassies," the women who served donuts to soldiers in the trenches during World War I. Winter will display a Salvation Army Red Kettle on the counter of Oh! Suzanna's on Friday, June 5, Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7. Every person who donates $1 will receive a free donut. All the money raised in the kettle during the weekend will be given to The Salvation Army. Donations will help fund year-round programs such as shelters, daycare, rehabilitation programs, food pantries, disaster assistance and utility assistance programs.

"After learning the origin of National Donut Day, we wanted to do out part to give back to the honorable organization," said Winter. "Hopefully our efforts will benefit The Salvation Army."

Oh! Suzanna's is located at 1016 West Poplar Ave., Collierville, TN 38017.
