Three Germantown Residents Appointed Salvation Army Board Officers

MEMPHIS, Tennessee, January 23, 2010 – The Salvation Army today announced its new board officers, which includes three Germantown residents.

The Salvation Army welcomes Phillip Reed, Corporate Director at Pinnacle Airlines, Corp., as the new board chair, Arthur W. Oliver, Senior Vice President of SunTrust Bank, Memphis, as the new vice chair and Thomas Dyer, partner at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP, as the board’s new treasurer. Additionally, Billie Jean Graham, a community volunteer, is the new secretary and Dr. John Smarrelli, President of Christian Brothers University, has been elected to the board as its newest member.

“We feel each officer brings beneficial knowledge and leadership to The Salvation Army, and we know they are committed to ‘doing the most good’ in our community,” said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. “Our board is responsible for a variety of tasks from strategic thinking to bell-ringing to sparking community involvement. We are confident our new board officers possess the dedication and skills to continue the wonderful work of our previous boards.”

“I’m proud to have been involved with The Salvation Army in Memphis for the past several years,” said Phillip Reed. “The Army is a global organization with a local focus. We touch hundred of people from our area; those who suffer from addiction, those seeking a change in life and those who need food or a warm, safe place to sleep. The Army accepts all, without hesitation or question. Germantown residents provide wonderful support, both in money and in sharing talent and leadership.”
