Bells Will Be Ringing – Will You Be Ringing One of Them?
Cold weather, twinkling lights and Christmas trees are all signs that Christmas is just around the corner, and on Saturday, November 21st another Christmas tradition will begin to sound as bells begin ringing at the
kick-off of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.
This year’s kettle campaign is dedicated to the memory of Nancy Crosby, a long-time Salvation Army Advisory Board member who for many years chaired the Red Kettle Committee and was responsible for volunteer bell ringer recruitment that resulted in over 500 bell ringers each year.
This year we’re searching for day captains. It’s an easy and rewarding job – you simply recruit three or four friends, co-workers or family members and we’ll assign you a kettle site. The only requirement is a smile and genuine greetings of “Merry Christmas and thank you.” We promise it will be a rewarding day. To be a day captain, call Elizabeth Duncan at The Salvation Army at 901-260-9130.
News Channel 3 is once again our TV Red Kettle Campaign sponsor. Last year’s great media coverage coupled with outstanding volunteers led to a record breaking kettle year with more than $330,000 raised. Kettle donations stay in here in Memphis and are used at Christmas time and throughout the year for programs that serve the neediest in our community.
Fans of Frank Capra’s 1946 film classic hit It’s a Wonderful Life remember the classic line “every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings.” Won’t you be an angel this Christmas and volunteer to be a bell ringer? Who knows, maybe this will be the year you get your wings.
