42 Nashville Adult Rehabilitation Clients Continue Treatment in Memphis After Storms Destroy Nashville Facility

The severe weather that recently struck the Mid-South impacted the lives of many Tennesseans. But for 42 Adult Rehabilitation Clients (ARC) in Nashville, Tennessee, the weather was no match for their determination and dedication to completing the ARC’s work-therapy program.

Devastating floods left the Nashville ARC underwater, forcing clients and employees to abandon the facility. The Memphis ARC responded to the crisis by opening its doors to the Nashville clients and offering them an opportunity to continue their therapy at its facility. A few days after the flooding, 42 men made the trek to Memphis to finish the program…more

Summer Paradise for Children in Need

The sweltering temperatures and long days mean summer is officially here, but it is not too late to help make this summer special for a child in need. Every year, with the help of the community, The Salvation Army provides underprivileged children the opportunity to experience the fun of a “sleep away” summer camp.

The Salvation Army’s Kentucky-Tennessee Division’s Camp Paradise Valley, located on Dale Hollow Lake near Burkesville, Kentucky, provides children (ages 7-12) a fun-filled week of making friends, swimming and fishing, and making arts and crafts. Children also learn about God’s love and how to build a relationship with Him, while participating in songfests and campfires.

A donation of $130 sends a child to camp for a week and helps provide a life-changing experience. Help us make this summer special for children in the Memphis community by supporting our camp and making a donation. For more information on how to donate, please call Elizabeth Duncan at (901) 260-9130.

The Kroc Center Comes Together for the City and its Environment

Recently, construction began on The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, a 100,000 square-foot facility for learning, recreation and worship. While the mission of the Kroc Center is to create an environment that fosters collaboration, mentorship and personal growth for Memphians, it is also emphasizing the importance of Memphis’ environment by making the facility eco-friendly.

Earlier this summer, three large red tanks were installed underground at the corner of the Kroc property. These tanks are part of Kroc’s recycling system, which will use rainwater to irrigate the soccer fields and other landscaping on the campus. This water recycling system is part of Kroc’s green initiative, earning the center the LEED Silver certification. This certification is given to eco-friendly building projects. For more information on LEED certification, click here.

The Salvation Army Kroc Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. For more information on Kroc, please visit www.krocmemphis.org.
