The Kroc Center Comes Together for the City and its Environment
Recently, construction began on The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, a 100,000 square-foot facility for learning, recreation and worship. While the mission of the Kroc Center is to create an environment that fosters collaboration, mentorship and personal growth for Memphians, it is also emphasizing the importance of Memphis’ environment by making the facility eco-friendly.
Earlier this summer, three large red tanks were installed underground at the corner of the Kroc property. These tanks are part of Kroc’s recycling system, which will use rainwater to irrigate the soccer fields and other landscaping on the campus. This water recycling system is part of Kroc’s green initiative, earning the center the LEED Silver certification. This certification is given to eco-friendly building projects. The Salvation Army Kroc Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. For more information on Kroc, please visit www.krocmemphis.org.
