Kroc Center Construction Continues
Construction on the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is moving rapidly towards its scheduled opening at the end of this year. With many key deadlines already met in the process, the Salvation Army is excited to embark on what lies ahead for the new community center.
“During these cold, wet months of winter as construction slowed down, the engineers and architects have been reviewing the Kroc Center design to ensure the highest quality structure for some unique features in the building,” said Stephen Carpenter, Director of Operations for the Kroc Center. “As the review is concluding and the weather gets better, we are starting to see more and more construction activity on the site. What a wonderful place this will be for arts, education, recreation, and worship!”
In January of this year, the Salvation Army began a Members Interest Drive to gauge what kind of response to expect from the local community once the center opens. The Kroc Center seeks to become a community hub and wants to meet the needs of those who will use the facility. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for or a member of the Kroc Corps Community Center, let us know by visiting www.krocmemphis.org. There is no obligation to join by filling out the survey. For more information on the development of the Kroc Center, contact Stephen Carpenter at (901) 729-8092.
When it is all finished, the 100,000-square-foot Kroc center will offer recreation, worship and fellowship, arts, and education to members and to the general public. Amenities offered will include a fitness center, classrooms, worship areas, basketball courts and soccer fields, aquatic facilities, and a theater/chapel. The tentative date for construction completion is December 2011.
