Auxiliary Founder’s Event – A Parisian City Scene
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will hold its annual Founder’s Day event at the end of March, but this year, it has a European twist. Instead of the usual chicken lunch, the Auxiliary will celebrate to the theme of An American in Paris, complete with live musical entertainment, croissants, and even mimes.
Theater Memphis will be the setting for the event on March 30 which will recognize and honor the founders and past presidents of the Women’s Auxiliary. There will be a sidewalk cafe setting with artists, mimes and ladies of high fashion to enhance the Parisian ambiance.
Live musical entertainment will include Gershwin show tunes from Theater Memphis’ own Debbie Litch and Gary Beard, and renowned Memphis singer Debbie Kines. There will also be Christian music performances from WREG-TV/DTV Chief Weather Anchor Tim Simpson and his duet partner, Bucky Walters of Pinnacle Airlines.
The event is split into three segments. The first sit-down “Chez Purdue” luncheon has seating by reservation only to the first 100 guests. Seating begins at 10:45 a.m. and the luncheon runs until noon. Tickets for this are $35. Next will be the live entertainment, which will run from noon until 1:00 p.m. The post-entertainment, “Meet and Mingle,” unseated lunch option is for those who plan on just browsing through the Parisian street scene and enjoying croissant sandwiches and other delicacies. Tickets for this option are $25.
“I am thrilled with the outstanding and entertaining ‘American in Paris’ program planned this year at Theatre Memphis,” said Sherrye Willis, Women’s Auxiliary President. “The Founders Day Event is an opportunity to recognize past Auxiliary presidents along with 16 women who founded the organization 24 years ago. Many thanks to all the Memphis entertainers who will make this program possible, and kudos to chairs Linda Mathis and Tammy Bartley for their tireless efforts.”
All proceeds from the event will go to the Salvation Army Auxiliary and Army projects. For more information about the Women’s Auxiliary Founder’s Day event, contact Sherrye Willis at
