Winchester Youth Program Offers
Activities for All Ages

Whether your child enjoys getting hands dirty, enjoying a tasty meal, or simply hanging out with friends, The Salvation Army Winchester Corps offers a variety of new programs available to start the year off right. Weekly meetings will have youth cultivating lasting relationships in no time.

Our team at Winchester offers two different programs for youth. Tuesday’s program is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and features different weekly activities, including fellowship nights, local service projects, and team building. A meal is provided. On Thursdays, Club 316 meets from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is open to kids from elementary through middle school. Activities at Club 316 include earning badges for Adventure Corps, Girl Guards, and Sunbeams in activities like cooking, indoor sports, and tree study.

Captain Melissa Irvin says, “Sharing the love of Jesus with the youth is our privilege. What a wonderful blessing it is to see the changes take place in the young people as they begin to grow socially and spiritually.” Both youth nights are held at the Winchester Corps facility at 4741 Winchester.

Roller Skating is just one of the events that kids can participate in through the Winchester Youth programs.

Kroc Center Construction Continues

Construction on the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is moving rapidly towards its scheduled opening at the end of this year. With many key deadlines already met in the process, the Salvation Army is excited to embark on what lies ahead for the new community center.

“During these cold, wet months of winter as construction slowed down, the engineers and architects have been reviewing the Kroc Center design to ensure the highest quality structure for some unique features in the building,” said Stephen Carpenter, Director of Operations for the Kroc Center. “As the review is concluding and the weather gets better, we are starting to see more and more construction activity on the site. What a wonderful place this will be for arts, education, recreation, and worship!”…more

Salvation Army Offers Cold Weather Shelter for Single Women

The city of Memphis is experiencing one of the coldest winters in recent years, with three big snow storms already on record. Unfortunately, that means many are suffering because they have nowhere to go. So, the City of Memphis has designated The Salvation Army as a Cold Weather Shelter for Single Women during the winter season.

The temporary shelter aligns with what is currently the Single Women’s Lodge at the Purdue Center of Hope (696 Jackson Avenue). The Cold Weather shelter opens at 7 p.m. and is available to women without children who have identification. The Salvation Army provides food, warm blankets, and a lot of love to those who visit, and no one will be asked to leave while the weather is still inclement…more
