Last year was a challenging year for everyone. With a slowed economy, donations to not-for-profits decreased while requests for services increased. This was certainly true at The Salvation Army, where we finished the year with a 5 percent reduction in revenue and a 16 percent increase in services.
In mid-2008, when trend lines indicated a red-ink year-end finish, we took some proactive steps and eliminated a few staff positions and reassigned other staff while making sure programs and services were unaffected. The result was a positive year-end finish.
We don't know what 2009 will bring. What we do know is that "with God all things are possible." Your staff at The Salvation Army strives to provide the best service possible while bringing honor and glory to our Lord.
Thank you for being our partner in ministry as we serve God's children in need.
