Angels in Need – Final 3 Days to Adopt
As the countdown to Christmas continues, the Memphis community has once again shown its generosity by adopting thousands of angels. With your help, The Salvation Army is putting smiles back on the faces of these less fortunate children and seniors.
The Angel Tree program provides clothes, toys and other necessities to children and seniors who cannot otherwise afford these basic items. But this year, there are still many angels left wanting.
Less than 50 Angels still need to be adopted from Oak Court Mall and Wolfchase Galleria.
"The benevolent spirit of the community powers this philanthropy year after year," said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. "At the beginning, corporate adoptions were significantly lower than last year causing a real concern that some of our angels would not get adopted. But, Memphians proved what a caring community we live in, and took this program to their hearts."
Now, the next task is to make sure the final Angels get adopted and that all gifts get returned. Unwrapped presents need to be returned to the mall where the Angel was adopted from by Saturday, December 13.
Unfortunately, each year angels are adopted and never returned in time for distribution. Therefore, The Salvation Army has crafted the "Forgotten Angel" program to ensure that angels are not left out. These tags list clothing sizes, popular wish-list items and favorite toys that can be given to angels who do not get returned.
Angel are still on the trees at Oak Court Mall and the Wolfchase Galleria. Carrefour at Kirby Woods has a selection of Forgotten Angels. The deadline to adopt and return Angels is this coming Saturday, December 13. Corporate Angels need to be delivered to the warehouse by December 13. Call (901) 260-9118 for exact the location and directions.
The 2008 Salvation Army Angel Tree honors the memory of Craig Robbins, a long-time supporter of The Salvation Army Angel Tree.
