FedEx Enhances The Salvation Army's Disaster Relief Around the World

About four years ago, The Salvation Army in Memphis received a phone call from one of the most well-known businesses in the world, FedEx Corporation. Little did these two organizations know that this simple call would develop into a successful, world-wide disaster relief program that would serve thousands of people.

"Disaster relief is a primary philanthropic focus area at FedEx," said Shane O'Connor, Program Advisor for FedEx. "That particular year, due to a quiet hurricane season and few large scale disasters, we had remaining funds in our budget to dedicate to this specific area. Therefore, we reached out to the local Salvation Army, an organization known for its immediate response to disasters and overall commitment to serving others, to see how we could contribute to their efforts."...more

ARC Rewards Outstanding Clients with Week-long Spiritual Retreat

Every August, Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) across the Southeast take their most dedicated clients on a seven-day Bible retreat in the mountains. This year, 10 Memphis ARC clients will spend a week at Lake Junaluska in North Carolina, where they will embark on an intensive spiritual retreat with 200-250 other ARC clients from surrounding territories.

"These men have proven to be serious about improving their lives," said Major Rick McConniel, Administrator of the Memphis Adult Rehabilitation Center. "They've been good examples for their peers, and will use this opportunity to take their recovery to the next level."

The clients spend their time enjoying the simplicity of nature, sharing their personal experiences and learning about God's love.

"This retreat allows these men to see that others have gone through similar hardships and they are not alone," said Major McConniel. "These clients truly encourage one another and return home feeling refreshed."

First Tennessee Supports The Salvation Army's Disaster Relief Efforts

When severe floods devastated areas of Tennessee in May, the First Tennessee Foundation and the employees and customers of First Tennessee Bank responded to the crisis by making a significant contribution to The Salvation Army's relief efforts.

Last week, Mike Edwards (left), First Tennessee Mid-South Market President, presented a check for almost $220,000 to Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. The money was designated for The Salvation Army's relief efforts across Tennessee as a result of the spring floods.
