Angels in Need – Final 3 Days to Adopt

As the countdown to Christmas continues, the Memphis community has once again shown its generosity by adopting thousands of angels. With your help, The Salvation Army is putting smiles back on the faces of these less fortunate children and seniors.

The Angel Tree program provides clothes, toys and other necessities to children and seniors who cannot otherwise afford these basic items. But this year, there are still many angels left wanting.

Less than 50 Angels still need to be adopted from Oak Court Mall and Wolfchase Galleria.

"The benevolent spirit of the community powers this philanthropy year after year," said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. "At the beginning, corporate adoptions were significantly lower than last year causing a real concern that some of our angels would not get adopted. But, Memphians proved what a caring community we live in, and took this program to their hearts."... more

The Bells are Still Ringing –
Please Keep Giving

It's crunch time! There are only 15 more days until Christmas morning, and just two weeks left to donate to The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Fundraiser.

The results have been amazing. The community has reached deep into its pockets and The Salvation Army is only $135,103.27 away from reaching the overall goal of $335,000. By raising this amount The Salvation Army can ensure continued year-round funding to programs such as homeless shelters, family services, drug and alcohol rehabilitation services, children's programs and Christmas assistance... more

For the past 108 years, the nonprofit organization has helped the lost, hungry and hopeless regain faith and conviction for a better life. The message "heart to God, hand to man" has remained the same, but as technology has evolved, so to has The Salvation Army's use of it.

For more than a century, The Salvation Army's largest fundraiser has been the Red Kettle Campaign. Until recently, this program relied solely on the generosity of shoppers putting a few dollars into the kettles during the holiday season... more

Venus Austin Shares Her Angel Tree Story

Venus Austin is an inspiration to many women in the Memphis community. In fact, some people would go as far to say that she helped save their lives. Venus is not a typical role model, but she is one of The Salvation Army's many success stories.

Venus was an alcoholic and drug addict. A little more than three years ago, she and her son, Austin, hit rock bottom. With no one else to turn to, she found her way to The Salvation Army Renewal Place, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for mothers and their children. After successfully completing the intensive two and a half year program, Venus now lives an independent, sober and healthy lifestyle. She has become an excellent mother and professional hair stylist... more
